On Friday, 1st June 2012, the Posidonia Cup Yacht Race will mark the start of the largest gathering of the international shipping community, the Posidonia 2012 International Shipping Exhibition.

Once again, Faliron Bay will see a fleet of sailing yachts, which will compete for the 6th Posidonia Cup in four categories: Performance, Standard, I.R.C. and Classic yachts. Sponsored by Lloyd’s Register, the Posidonia Cup is expected to attract more than 50 yachts, claiming its place as one of the biggest sailing events in the Aegean.

All members of the international shipping community are invited to enter the race, either with their own private yacht or with those provided by the co-organisers of the race, the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC). The 6th Posidonia Cup will conclude with the high-profile award ceremony at the "Ble Pavillion" on Friday evening, where the winners will be presented with the coveted  Posidonia Cup trophies while all participants will have a chance to reinforce old and establish new friendships with shipping professionals from around the world.

If you wish to participate in the 6th Posidonia Cup Yacht Race please fill in the official Race Entry Form, which is available online and in pdf format and send it to HORC (fax: +30 210 422 7038, e-mail horc@otenet.gr). To secure availability of yachts, early registration is advised. Details regarding the boats’ classes, regulations, safety instructions and other useful information are available in the Notice of Race, which is enclosed. The list of boats provided for chartering from HORC is available on www.horc.gr.

Furthermore, we are pleased to announce that for the first time in its history, the Posidonia Cup Yacht Race will join forces with the well-established International Sailing Race of Andros island, giving contestants the chance to participate in both races if they wish. An initiative of John B. Goulandris (Big John), the “International Andros Sailing Race” began in 1967 and continues till today, organized by the Yacht Club of Andros (NOA) and with the active participation of prominent personalities from the maritime industry. Whereas results will be issued for each race separately, the 6th Posidonia Cup will at the same time constitute the first part of the “International Andros Sailing Race” and Posidonia Cup contestants will have the opportunity to participate in the Andros race as well, continuing their journey on Saturday morning to Andros Island, a place of historic maritime importance. Many cultural and sports events are planned for the weekend of the Andros race and there is also available accommodation for family and friends.
